Classes
At South Wingfield we have 5 classes, all of them (apart from Class 3) consisting of mixed aged classes.

At South Wingfield Primary School, we carefully consider how classes are organised at key transition points—specifically at the end of Reception and Year 4. Decisions about class groupings are made collaboratively by the class teachers and the headteacher, with the aim of creating balanced, supportive learning environments for all children.
Importantly, these decisions are not based on academic ability. Each class is mixed-ability, and we take into account a wide range of factors including friendship groups, social dynamics, sibling placements, and individual needs. We understand that parents may have questions or concerns, and we want to reassure you that every decision is made with the child’s best interests at heart. It is a thoughtful process, and not one we take lightly.
Once class lists have been finalised and approved, the decision is considered final. We appreciate your understanding and support in helping us create the best possible learning environment for all pupils.
Financial Benchmarking
Financial benchmarking is a way for schools to compare their spending and resource allocation with similar schools across the country. It helps us understand how effectively we are using our funds and identify areas where we can improve.
By looking at benchmarks, we can answer questions like:
- Are we spending the right amount on teaching and learning?
- How do our administrative costs compare to other schools?
- Are we investing enough in resources for pupils?
Why is it important?
- Transparency: Parents and the community can see how the school uses its budget.
- Improvement: It helps us make informed decisions to provide the best education for our children.
- Accountability: Ensures public funds are used responsibly.
