Welcome to Class One
A very warm welcome to Class One 2021-2022. Class One is a happy and exciting place where our new Reception children and our youngest Year One pupils are busy learning and having fun. Our class teachers are Mrs Barratt (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Randle (Thursdays and Fridays). We also have the support of our fantastic teaching assistants: Mrs Pywell and Mrs Colman.
If you have any questions, concerns or comments please email Mrs Barratt (vbarratt@southwingfield.derbyshire.sch.uk) or Mrs Randle (cheryl.randle@southwingfield.derbyshire.sch.uk)
Please check the page regularly for updates and photos.
Best wishes
Mrs Barratt and Mrs Randle
More diary dates!
We only have 4 weeks left until the summer holidays! Nevertheless, we have lots of great things still to do!
The children will be meeting the new Class 1 teacher, Miss Goold, during the next few weeks as she gets to know the current Class 1 children and also when she meets our September New Starter children who are having two taster sessions at school.
All the children will have a 'Moving Up' Day when they meet their new classmates and their teacher for the next school year.
Drum roll number 1 ...
Week beginning 11th July - we are having a Pirate Day with our shipmates in Class 2. A letter will follow. We would love the children to come to school wearing pirate outfits. Please do not go out and buy anything just for the day. Shorts and (stripey) T-shirts are ideal - maybe with pirate accessories such as scarves. Please do not buy and send in any swords or hooks, etc - we are all friendly pirates!!!
Drum roll number 2 ...
On Wednesday 20th July Class One will be going out of school for our school trip. It has been very hard to find an affordable place to take the children that offers the activities that we want them to experience. We are very happy to be booked on a guided trip at White Post Farm for the day. Please check your child's bag for a letter this week. Payments are to be made electronically on the school payment system which Miss Mortland will set up for our trip.
The last day of term is Thursday 21st July.
Please take the time to read the latest school newsletter. It has a lot of information including updated Diary Dates and information about classes in September. Thank you.
Reminder: Tuesday 21st June: Whole School Sports Day all afternoon.
All children to come in their PE kits both on Monday and Tuesday, please.
New diary dates
Thursday 26th May
The Queen's Jubilee Celebration Day.
The children will be having a street party lunch with food served in the playground. The children can choose to come dressed in red, white and blue as part of the occasion. The kitchen staff will make the winning Platinum Jubilee pudding for the street party.
The PTA hamper raffle will be drawn on this day.
26th May is also the last day of term.
Friday 27th May – INSET day
Monday 6th June – Children return to school
Tuesday 21st June – Sports Day for all children in the afternoon.
The school PTA has been planning a whole year of events up to July 2022 and the next event is The Big Dig on Saturday 2nd and Saturday 9th of April from 10am until 1pm. They would like volunteers to help with improving the school grounds such as jet washing, digging, planting and pruning. Our children in Class One use the outside area every day and we would be very grateful if any family members and friends could come and help. Free breakfast cobs are being given out to volunteers so if you are able to help, please let the PTA know on their social media pages beforehand.
It was lovely to be able to meet face to face with our Class One parents last week. If any of our parents or carers missed their meeting please email us to arrange a meeting before the Easter holidays. Thank you.

In the afternoon it is the Class One Christmas Party!!!

Last day of term is Wednesday 22nd December.
We have three very busy days left at school and we are looking forward to enjoying the rest of our festive activities in school. The photographs below are a taste of all the different ways that we have been learning in Class One. During the last few weeks we have been finding out and learning about so many interesting things including the way the festivals of Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas are celebrated during the seasons of autumn and winter. We have been learning about light and dark, nocturnal animals and the changes in nature now that we are in wintertime. We have also investigated how we can stay safe in the dark with reflective and fluorescent materials - this was really important during Road Safety week. Our activities about light and dark also included finding out about the sun and the moon and space travel! Well done to all our children for their wonderful enthusiasm and the way they have worked together as a team using their initiative and showing kindness and consideration to others.
TAPESTRY: we are very happy that our school Tapestry account is now up and running for our Reception children and their families. Please add any home news or ECaT work on your child's page.
Monday 6th September
It looks like it is going to be a lovely sunny day for us all on Monday. We are looking forward to seeing our Year One children on Monday morning at 8.50 and our New Starter children at 9.15.
Please remember to send your child to school with a named water bottle and a healthy snack. Please ensure that you do not send in any snacks containing nuts, thank you.
Thank you very much.
